Long operations
Copying, moving, deleting and extracting run in the background. If an operation takes more than an instant, it gets its own window: the current file name, “Files: N of M”, the amount of data, the speed and the time remaining. Meanwhile, Wander works as usual: you can browse folders and start other operations.
- “Minimize” moves the window to the status bar: “Copying: 45%”; with several operations, there's one combined bar. Clicking it opens the operations panel with “Show” and “Cancel” buttons. You can't close the window before the operation ends, so that it doesn't get lost; when the operation finishes, the window closes by itself.
- “Cancel” stops the operation at once, not at the end of the current file: no partly written file is left behind, and
Ctrl+Zremoves whatever was already copied. - Exiting Wander during an operation asks whether to stop it; “Cancel” is selected by default.
- The computer doesn't go to sleep while an operation is running; the screen turns off as usual.
Finished operations stay in the operations panel until you dismiss them: you see how each one ended and how many files are done, failed and checked. When nothing is running, the status bar shows the result as icons, for example “✓ 3 · ⚠ 1”.
- “Details” lists the files that failed, with the reason.
- “Retry” repeats only what failed or was canceled.
- “Dismiss” removes the row, and “Clear finished” removes all the successful ones; with
Shift, the failed ones too. - Copying to a USB drive or memory card has an “Eject” button with the drive letter.
Reliable copying
- A file appears complete. A copy is written under a temporary
.wander-tmpname and gets its own name only once it's fully written: interrupted copying leaves no broken pieces. - A read error from a card, USB drive or network is retried twice more, with a pause; the operation's row shows “try 2 of 3”. If that doesn't help, you get the reason in plain words: not enough space, no more entries in a folder on a FAT drive, a file over 4 GB for FAT32, the device is disconnected, a read error on the media.
- Checking copies. What's copied from USB drives, memory cards, phones and cameras is read back from the disk and compared with the original; if it doesn't match, the file is copied again. You choose whether to check always, never, or only from external media in “Settings” → “File operations”.
- If a phone or camera disconnects in the middle of copying, the operation waits up to 10 minutes for it and continues once it's plugged back in.
