Batch rename
Press F2 on two or more files, or choose “Actions” → “Batch rename…”.
One batch renames either only files or only folders.
The template builds the new name from text and tokens:
| Token | What goes in |
|---|---|
[N] |
the original name |
[C] |
a counter; the start number, step and number of digits are in the fields below the template |
[D] |
date modified; [D:yyyy-MM-dd] in your own format |
[X] |
date taken from EXIF, or date modified for a file without it |
[P] |
the folder name |
For example, [P]_[C] with a three-digit counter in the “Vacation” folder gives Vacation_001, Vacation_002 and so on.
Below the template:
- “Find and replace”, case-insensitive, optionally with a regular expression (
$1in the replacement is the first group); - name and extension case; the extension itself can change only its case.
On the right, the “Before” → “After” table: conflicts are highlighted in red, unchanged names in gray.
Numbering follows the order of the files on screen.
Only the “OK” button applies the changes, and Ctrl+Z restores all the names at once.
Files can swap names: Wander sorts that out itself.
