Conversion
“Actions” → “Convert” offers ready-made conversions.
Select files and choose an item: the result is saved next to the source under a new name, and the source file stays unchanged.
Ctrl+Z moves the result to the Recycle Bin.

An item whose program is missing is grayed out, and its tooltip names that program.
To another folder. At the end of the submenu is “To another folder…”: Wander asks for a folder, and the results of the whole batch go there. The same in one gesture: drag the files with the right mouse button onto a folder in the file area, the tree or Bookmarks, and choose a conversion in the menu that opens at the drop point.
The output name is built from the source's name by a template, next to the source: clip.mp4 becomes clip_small.mp4.
If the name is taken, a number is added: next to “clip (3)” you get “clip (4)”.
Nothing is overwritten.
Conversion progress shows in the operation window, as with copying, with a cancel button; an unfinished result goes to the Recycle Bin. If something fails, a window appears with a line for each file and the program's message.
Programs
Wander finds FFmpeg, LibreOffice and Pandoc by itself, in PATH and in the usual install locations.
“Settings” → “File operations” → “Programs” shows whether each one was found and where it is.
“Browse…” picks the exe manually, “Reset” goes back to finding it automatically.
If a program isn't found, the same page shows an install command you can copy: winget install Gyan.FFmpeg, TheDocumentFoundation.LibreOffice, JohnMacFarlane.Pandoc.
Images
Wander re-encodes images itself:
- a photo is rotated according to EXIF and stays upright from then on;
- date taken, camera, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, focal length, coordinates, rating and copyright carry over to JPEG and TIFF, including from RAW; title, keywords and author carry over when Windows provides them, but are not taken from an
.xmpnext to the photo; - a JPEG that needs neither shrinking nor rotating isn't re-compressed;
- transparent areas are filled with white in JPEG, and PNG, BMP and GIF don't store metadata;
- a RAW that Windows can't open is converted from the JPEG embedded in it.
Preview from RAW is the embedded JPEG as is, without re-compression, so it's fast.
Large (IMG_lpv.jpg) is the biggest one the camera embedded (for CR3, CR2 and ARW, it's the full frame); small (IMG_spv.jpg) exists only in CR3, at 1620×1080.
Rotation, camera, date taken and coordinates are written to the file.
